The main law governing employment in Saudi Arabia is the labor law issued by Royal Decree in 2005 within amendments has been added to the labor law by Royal Decree in 2015, No 46. in addition there are a number of Royal Decrees, ministerial decisions and resolutions, departmental circulars and other pronouncements of official bodies relating to a labor matters issued from time to time that have the force of law.
The provision of the labor law regulated by the ministry of labor will apply to almost every contract of employment under which any person undertakes to work for employer for a wage. Exemptions from the labor law exist, for example, employing members of the employer’s family who are the only employees, housemaids, non-saudi workers performing a specific task for less than two months and sports players.
